Premoratorium aircraft

Just to clear some questions..
If you buy an aircraft who was registered and had limitation before the moratorium , as soon as that aircraft will be under a new FSDO control , the old limitations will not be valid any more and new limitations will have to be issued.
I ask that question to my local FSDO and they told me that people advertising sale of an aircraft with premoratorium limitation is just a false information and false advertising because it will disppared with the new registration and will have the same limitations than all the other jet experimental aircraft.

Aluminum tubing

Big tip tank 230 liters for Fouga

After talking with Christian Berard, in 1996 the French Air Force prohibited the use of the 230 liters tip tanks, baned them for installation on fougas because they found some cracks in the fiber glass at the root of the front tank attachment.
Thoses tanks had to be stripped of the paint every 18 month and inspected for cracks and maintened by inspection requirement before 1996 .
On a fouga in the French Air Force, one tank broke off from the front attachment and stayed up right at the tip of the wing holding by the rear attachment point ,making the flight very difficult. The aircraft landed safely.
Accident occurred Saturday, June 16, 2001 at La Crosse, WIAircraft:Fouga CM 170, registration: N301FM 2 dead .
If the word came around before it would not have happened.

Filter Le Bozec

Just for information that the main fuel filter cannot be cleaned because it is a paper filter.
Le Bozec at my knowledge do not make that filter any more.
I will have some made with 316 stainless and will be able to be cleaned forever.
It will take 12-14 weeks from now and no need to buy 2 for one aircraft since they can be cleaned.
They will cost around $400.00 each ( expensive because small quantities )

Blade antenna on fouga

Some infos from a fellow fouga pilot owner for blade antenna installation

"If anyone wants to switch to the blade antenna for the Fouga, they have to get a new combiner to make them work right.

CI 120-3 single output combiner. Connects to existing coaxial cables leading to the antennas.

When you see ............, be sure to piss on his shoes. Have a good time.

Engine start problem

A fellow Fouga owner had a problem to start the right engine.
It was an intermitent problem and not a full and clear explanation and understanding of the trouble between me and him.
Finaly the symtom is after reaching 1000 rpm the engine is spooling down before reaching the 1200rpm for fuel injection and ignition ( marbore II engine )
The relai involve is the 12K for the right engine.
A jumper wire on the relai 12K was not making a good contact so it was the problem.
Thanks to Jim who was the mechanic resolving that problem.

Optima 34R to replace original battery

A way to replace the nicad battery is to install 2 Optima R34 battery

No more problems for starting the aircraft.

They are gel sealed battery so no acid drain during aerobatics , no risk of battery run away, no need to recharge the battery and have it serviced.

Thoses batteries are 50Amps and give 1000 cold cranking amp's.

You can have the aircraft sitting for 5 months and it starts without external power...

Average cost $350 for both of them and they can be recharged at 50Amps /hour if you have a charger who can do that.

Morane Paris MS760 type rating

A. for an authorization to act as PIC of the Morane Saulnier Paris Jet MS760 turbojet‑powered aircraft, an applicant must:

· Possess at least a U.S. private pilot certificate with an appropriate category and class rating (e.g., airplane, multi‑engine land);

· Hold an instrument rating;

· Possess at least a valid U To be eligible.S. third‑class medical certificate;

· 250 hours total time in a complex / high performance aircraft.

Turbojet‑Powered or Rocket‑Powered Airplane. To be eligible
to serve as PIC of a turbojet‑powered or rocket‑powered airplane not considered
to be a former military airplane, an applicant must:

1) Possess at least a U.S. private pilot certificate with an appropriate category and class rating;

2) Possess at least a valid U.S. third‑class medical certificate or equivalent

(U.S. Military Flight Medical or U.S. driver’s license in accordance with the

FAA BasicMed process (pilots using BasicMed may not exceed 250 KIAS));

3) Hold an instrument rating appropriate to the category;

4) Have completed the training requirements of this section;

and

5) If the aircraft has a V_NE of 250 KIAS or greater, have a minimum of 250 hours of pilot flight time as PIC in a complex, high performance airplane.

B. Training Requirements.

1) Training must meet the standards specified in the appropriate parts of the practical test standards (PTS) for type ratings (FAA‑S‑8081‑5, Airline Transport Pilot and Aircraft Type Rating, Practical Test Standards for Airplane, current edition). At a minimum, an applicant’s ground training program must include the following requirements:

· The airplane’s systems and components.

· Ground emergency procedures, including abnormal procedures, if described in the airplane’s checklist.

· Flight emergency procedures, including abnormal procedures, if described in the airplane’s checklist.

· Use of performance charts, including (but not limited to) takeoff, climb, cruise, and landing.

· Fuel requirements and fuel management.

· Runway requirements and limitations (e.g., minimum runway lengths and crosswind limits of the airplane).

· Contents of the Aircraft Flight Manual (AFM) or equivalent.

· Operating limitations prescribed for the specific airplane, both the manufacturer’s and FAA‑issued.

· Operation of the airplane in the high‑altitude realm, if applicable.

· Recovery from abnormal flight profiles based on specific aircraft characteristics.

2) The applicant’s flight training program must meet the standards established in FAA‑S‑8081‑5. The recommending instructor must have personally flown with the applicant in the airplane type (for multi seat with functioning dual controls). This training must include the following requirements:

· Airplane preflight.

· Crew Resource Management (CRM), including single pilot, as appropriate.

· Powerplant start procedure, taxiing, and pre takeoff checks.

· Normal and crosswind takeoff.

· Powerplant failure during takeoff.

· Rejected takeoff.

· Flight at critically slow airspeeds in all appropriate configurations.

· Approaches to and recovery from stalls, as appropriate. Recovery from normal and abnormal flight profiles based on specific aircraft characteristics, including unusual attitudes.

· Normal, emergency, and abnormal procedures.

· Landing with simulated powerplant failure.

· Normal and crosswind landings.

· Landing from a no‑flap or a nonstandard flap approach.

· Rejected landing.

· Fuel‑low level/return to base procedures.

· Aerobatics, if appropriate to the airplane and requested by the applicant, if the applicant can provide operating limitations required by § 91.319 authorizing aerobatics and specific maneuvers.

Authorized Experimental Aircraft Ratings Current Guidance contained in 8700.1, Chapter 32, paragraph 7, items 1 - 4 is still valid for eligibility requirements:
A. Surplus Military Turbine-Powered Airplanes. To be eligible to serve as PIC of a surplus military turbine-powered aircraft, an applicant must:
5-1580 ELIGIBILITY FOR AN AIRCRAFT AUTHORIZATION. Aircraft authorizations may be issued by either an EAE or an ASI (Operations) authorized by the NPO. Since “other aircraft authorizations” are similar to type ratings, the eligibility, application, issuance, and limitations will be similar to a type rating. By the same reasoning, once an “other aircraft authorization” is issued to an individual, then (like a type rating) it should be issued for an indefinite period of time or without an expiration date. Requirements for eligibility for an authorization include completion of training, testing, and evaluation in the same manner as would be required for a type rating.A.
